Can I Eat? is designed to minimize personal data transmission. The app uses public food and medication reference data, country data packs, and on-device user context to help users review food information.
Health notes, allergy information, supplement information, and current medication information entered by the user are intended to be managed inside the user's device. They are used to help the app organize reference explanations and are not designed to be uploaded to the website as a combined personal health profile.
When public reference lookup is needed, the app may send limited lookup values such as barcode numbers, product names, drug names, product codes, selected country codes, or selected data pack paths to https://canieat.net. These values are used to retrieve public product, food, medication, or data pack information.
Camera access is used only when the user opens the barcode scanner. The camera is used to read barcode information for product lookup. The app does not use camera access in the background and does not use the camera for unrelated purposes. Barcode scanning is not intended to upload personal photos.
When a user selects a country or regional data pack, the app downloads only the selected ZIP file from https://canieat.net/datapacks. The app extracts the ZIP inside app storage, installs the database, and may delete the temporary ZIP file after installation.
If the user submits a support or privacy inquiry through the website or future app support flow, the submitted message, contact information, attached files, and related details may be used to respond to the inquiry and correct service errors.
Like most web services, the website, API proxy, and hosting provider may process technical request information such as IP address, request URL, user agent, request time, and error logs for security, abuse prevention, debugging, and service operation.
The service is not designed to sell, rent, or trade app users' personal health information. Public data providers may receive lookup requests through the Can I Eat? API proxy only as needed to return public reference information.
The app should provide ways to delete locally stored health information, medication information, downloaded data packs, and temporary files. Final deletion controls should match the released app behavior.
